Long known as one the most beautiful and scenic areas of the Albemarle, Perquimans County is situated between Edenton and Elizabeth City. Formed in 1668, Perquimans has strong historical ties with 4 distinct historic districts and the Newbold White House Historic Site. A quick drive through the downtown area will take you straight into “Main Street USA” for shopping, home town eateries, a coffee shop and so much more. There’s plenty of bed and breakfast opportunities and dining experiences along with the Baseball Hall of Famer Catfish Hunter Museum, theres something for everyone. 

With strong traditions and a cutting edge vision for technology, Perquimans boasts one of the best school systems in the area. With small class sizes, Perquimans County Schools offers a 21st century education personalized for every child.  Residents of Perquimans have easy access to higher education through Elizabeth City State University, Mid-Atlantic Christian University and multiple campuses of College of the Albemarle.

Hall of fame pitcher Jim “Catfish” Hunter was born and raised here is certainly a point of interest for any sports fan. You can see up close and personal memorabilia from his playing days at Perquimans High School through his time with Kansas City, Oakland and New York. 

Part of the larger Albemarle Area, the entire region is known for its small town charm and is a great place to live, work and retire. With its local amenities and proximity to the Outer Banks of NC and Hampton Roads VA the residents of the region have access to so much.
