Currituck County

Currituck County is located in the most Northeastern location of the state. With a county population of just under 24,000, residents and tourist alike know the area well due to its proximity to the NC-VA line and as a direct path to the beautiful vacation spots along the NC Outer Banks. Formed in 1668 as part of Albemarle County and in 1739 as Currituck County, the name comes from the Indian word for wild geese. 

Currituck is considered part of the greater Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News metro area, better known as Hampton Roads. Separated from the mainland, the northern beaches of the Outer Banks are also part of the county, including Corova Beach, Corolla and Knots Island. 

Fun in the sun isn’t limited to just the beaches of Currituck. H2OBX is a 30 ride waterpark that began operations in June of 2017. 20+ acres along US highway 158 are specially themed to encompass and embrace the culture of the Outer Banks in a whole new way. 

Also located on the 158 corridor, visitors to Currituck County can get a glimpse of an icon in the motor sports world. Dennis Anderson and Grave Digger can be found at Diggers Dungeon. There you can see the original Grave Digger along with other pieces of memorabilia. 

Part of the larger Albemarle Area, the entire region is known for its small town charm and is a great place to live, work and retire.
