Chowan County

Chowan County is the smallest county in NC geographically speaking but more than makes up for it in charm and appeal. The county seat of Edenton is steeped in history, serving as the second capital of the province of NC from 1722 to 1743. Edenton was the first permanent European settlement in the state of North Carolina. Selected by Forbes magazine as one of Americas prettiest towns, you don’t have to search far to find historical landmarks and points of interest. From the colonial era courthouse (1767), to the Penelope Barker house (home of Edenton’s own Tea Party), Edenton is filled with opportunities to explore, sight see and learn. 

A walk through the downtown area serves almost as a time portal to experience small town life.
