Camden County
Founded in 1777, Camden is a rural community in eastern NC. Located between Pasquotank to west and Currituck to the east, the NC VA border to the north and the Albemarle Sound to the south, the county is nestled into one of the most scenic areas of eastern NC.
With just under 10,000 citizens, Camden is broken in to 3 townships, South Mills, Camden, and Shiloh (listed North to South), Camden is the first consolidated city-county in the entire state of NC. NC highway 343 is the only NC highway that is located completely in 1 county and stretches from the NC VA border to the furthest point south of the county. Camden is home to the 14,000 acre Dismal Swamp State Park. Here you will find 20 miles of trails and walking paths along with access to the Intercoastal waterway and interactive exhibits at the Visitor Center. The NC Welcome Center on Highway 17 is located on the intracoastal water way and is uniquely accessible by land and water.
In November of 2020 the citizens of Camden overwhelmingly voted in support to construct a new high school. The new high school is tentatively scheduled to open its door in 2023.
